May has sprung, bringing with it warmer weather, blooming flowers, and most importantly, National Physical Fitness & Sports Month! Here at LuskinOIC Sports Medicine Center, we believe in the power of movement and the incredible benefits it brings to both our physical and mental well-being. This month, we’re thrilled to champion the importance of an active lifestyle for everyone, from budding young athletes to seasoned competitors.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides clear guidelines on the amount and types of physical activity crucial for different age groups. For children and adolescents aged 6-17 years, the recommendation is 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day. This should ideally include:

  • Aerobic activity: The majority of the daily 60+ minutes should be aerobic, such as walking, running, or any activity that noticeably increases their heart rate. It’s also important to incorporate vigorous-intensity activities at least 3 days per week.
  • Muscle-strengthening: Activities like climbing or doing push-ups should be included at least 3 days a week to build strong muscles.
  • Bone-strengthening: Activities such as jumping or running help promote healthy bone growth and should also be incorporated at least 3 days a week.

At LuskinOIC, we witness firsthand the dedication and passion of athletes striving to achieve their goals. We are honored to be a part of their journey, providing expert care and support to help them recover from injuries and reach their full potential. This month, we want to shine a spotlight on the inspiring stories of two such individuals: Alex and Aria.

Alex’s Story: The Power of Perseverance

Alex’s inspiring journey with scoliosis is featured in our Sports Medicine campaign at LuskinOIC. Thanks to Dr. Anthony Scaduto and our expert team, Alex overcame the challenges to reach the pinnacle of US water polo, a dream once uncertain.

Aria’s Story: Finding Strength in Recovery

Meet Aria, the young archer whose story of perseverance is highlighted in our LuskinOIC Sports Medicine campaign. Despite early promise, using ill-fitting borrowed equipment resulted in shoulder injuries. Learn how LuskinOIC empowers young athletes to overcome setbacks and thrive in their sport.

Alex and Aria’s stories, while unique, share a common thread: the unwavering commitment of athletes to their sport and the vital support provided by specialized sports medicine centers like LuskinOIC. We are proud to play a role in helping athletes of all levels get back to what they love, safely and effectively.

This National Physical Fitness & Sports Month, we encourage everyone to embrace the joy of movement. Whether it’s encouraging your kids to participate in school sports or finding enjoyable ways to incorporate 30 minutes of activity into your own day, every step counts. Let’s work together to create a community that prioritizes physical well-being and celebrates the incredible power of the human body in motion.

How can you celebrate National Physical Fitness & Sports Month?

  • Get Active! Take a walk, go for a bike ride, try a new sport, or simply dance to your favorite music.
  • Encourage Kids: Support opportunities for physical activity at school and at home. Make it fun and engaging!
  • Spread Awareness: Talk to your friends and family about the importance of physical fitness.
  • Learn More: Explore resources from organizations dedicated to promoting physical activity and sports.

At LuskinOIC Sports Medicine Center, we are committed to helping you achieve your fitness goals and stay active for life. If you’re an athlete looking for expert care or simply seeking guidance on incorporating more movement into your routine, our team is here to support you.
