Tomas’s Story

Tomas has been part of the LuskinOIC family since 2018. Without treatment, Tomas faced a predicted 12-centimeter leg length discrepancy. Under Dr. Scaduto’s expert care, he underwent complex lengthening surgery in December 2022 using an external fixator. Despite experiencing a setback when he fractured his lengthened femur in a school accident while the fixator was still in place, he recovered successfully under Dr. Scaduto’s continued care and completed the lengthening process as planned. After completing his treatment, he began participating in sports including soccer and boxing. This return to physical activity has dramatically improved his self-esteem and emotional health, according to his mother. The confidence gained through successful treatment and renewed athletic participation has transformed his overall quality of life. Today, he actively pursues his interests in both athletics and arts.

Luciana’s Story

Luciana joined the LuskinOIC family in 2022 and has shown steady progress through dedicated medical care and her own determination. Luciana began walking with assistance at age 4, demonstrating her early mobility potential. In 2023, she underwent surgery to improve her walking ability and prevent hip subluxation, a common concern in children with cerebral palsy. The LuskinOIC team has provided essential mobility aids including walkers and braces to support her continued development. Currently in 2nd grade, Luciana is thriving academically. She is multilingual, learning both English and Mandarin at school. Her academic interests include mathematics, which she particularly enjoys, and reading.

Yuli’s Story

Yuli was diagnosed with leg length discrepancy and has been part of the LuskinOIC family since 2013, receiving comprehensive care over more than a decade under Dr. Scaduto’s expertise. Without intervention, she faced a projected 20-centimeter leg length discrepancy, which would have significantly impacted her mobility and quality of life. Her treatment plan required careful timing and sequential interventions coordinated with her growth and bone development. Initially, she was monitored closely and provided with shoe lifts to manage the discrepancy while waiting for the optimal timing for surgical intervention. In 2017, when she reached appropriate age and bone maturity, she underwent hip surgery. This was followed by lengthening surgery with external fixator placement in 2019, and an epiphysiodesis procedure on both the femur and tibia in 2021 to further address the length discrepancy. Yuli has a passion for art and demonstrates musical talent, playing several instruments.
